Thomas Edward "Sonny" Mitchell

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Edward “Sonny” Mitchell will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2016 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Ellis Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery at Lawrence under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.

There will be no visitation.

Music will be provided by Chris Spence.

Thomas Edward Mitchell was born February 4, 1939 in Sunflower County. He passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo at the age of 77. He was employed in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator for Monroe Allen Construction Company for over 40 years. The Mitchell family lived at Doddsville, in the MS Delta until 1959. Then, they moved to Lake. For the last 23 years, Mr. Sonny lived in the Tupelo area to be near his daughters who cared for him.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Ruth Ann Grissom Mitchell; his parents: James Otis and Tennie Bea Bugg Mitchell; and two brothers: Bobby Joe Mitchell and Donald Howard Mitchell.

Survivors include his daughters: Renee (Rodney) Dill of Guntown and Lisa (Wayne) King, both of Mantachie; his siblings: James Ellis (Maxine) Mitchell of Forest; Peggy (Bill) Dickerson of Lake, Patricia (Harmon) Crosby of Lawrence; Brenda Crosby, Jimmy (Linda) Mitchell, and Dianne (David Joe) Usry, all of Lake; three grandchildren: T.J. Dill, Preston Dill, and Kelley (Ben) Wallace; two great-grandchildren: Kipp Wallace and Sadie Grace Wallace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: T.J. Dill, Preston Dill, Ben Wallace, John Mitchell, Eddie Stokes, Jason Mitchell, and James Mitchell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jeff Mitchell, Joey Mitchell, David Mitchell, Kevin Crosby, Justin Usry, Howard Mitchell, Ken Crosby, Michael Wooten, and Mark Crosby.
