Funeral services for Mr. Tommie B. “Tom” Estes will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from the Ott & Lee Chapel with the Rev. Chris Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastern Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be Friday, May 20, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home and on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service.
Tommie B. Estes was born in Choctaw County on August 1, 1926. He passed away Wednesday, May, 18, 2016 at the University of Mississippi Center in Jackson at the age of 89. He left high school to join the U.S. Navy, after spending his late teen years at Harperville. Remembered for his broadcasting career with WMAG/WQST in Forest, and his engineering work in the radio industry, Mr. Tom was an accomplished draftsman for many churches in the local area. He was a fabulous artist, displaying his art work at art shows throughout the Southern United States region. Mr. Estes was a World War II Veteran, and a member of the Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, and the Easter Star, local chapters, and the Temple Baptist Church in Forest, where he was a former Sunday School teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles S. & Cora Deason Estes, and one daughter: Pamela Denise Estes.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years: Mrs. Pearline Johnson Estes of Forest; two children: Brenda Estes Vaughn of Forest and Cynthia Estes Holley of Jackson; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the service will be: Davis Reed, Joey Johnson, Charles Johnson, Mark Johnson, Andrew Holley, and Austin Holley.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Temple Baptist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
