James Thomas “Tommy” Griffing, 64, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his residence. Visitation is 5-8 pm Friday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and 9:30 am Saturday at Oakdale Baptist Church. Services will follow at 11 am in the church with burial in Oakdale Cemetery.

Tommy was a lifelong resident of Rankin County and retired as a Bell South/AT&T employee after 32 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Oakdale Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was ground-keeper for the Oakdale Cemetery for many years. Tommy was an Army Veteran serving in the 113th Military Police. He was very active in helping others in the community and actively visited the VA Hospital and nursing homes. Tommy organized the Shiloh Retiree Telephone Reunions for the last several years and simply loved just being around and doing for people.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sandy Griffing; sons, Richard Griffing and Chris Griffing and wife Tara; grandchildren, Jacob Griffing, Olivia Griffing and Lilly Kate Griffing; sisters, Frances Mauk of Yazoo City and Shirley Cooper of Bedford, Texas; brother, David Griffing of Ft. Worth, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Woodrow and Ida Griffing; brother, William “Jiggs” Griffing.
