Tommy Henson

July 24, 1945 — December 12, 2021

Brandon, MS

Tommy Houston Henson, 76 of Brandon, died of heart failure on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

A Memorial Service will be 3:00pm Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Brandon First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Larsen officiating.

Tommy was born on July 24, 1945, in Red Bay, Alabama to Ruby Hughes Henson and Leslie Taylor Henson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings: Billy Henson, Evelyn Lipscomb, Charlie Henson, and Les Henson.

On November 26, 1967, Tommy Henson and Hellen Cox were married. That union of fifty-four years was filled with much love and some tears but remained strong through it all. They were blessed with their son, Stephen, and four precious grandchildren! Tommy was loved by many, and he returned that love openly! He especially loved babies and children and relished the opportunity to hold “his” babies in his lap (and they returned his affection). Another side of Tommy was his, some would say, wicked sense of humor that was always delivered with a knowing, sweet smile! Laughter was usually Tommy’s companion.

Tommy is survived by his wife Hellen Cox Henson: son: Stephen Henson (Ashley); four grandchildren: McKenzee, Savannah, Trey, and Presley; nieces and nephews: Mary Joe Harvey, Veni Joe Henson, Garry Henson, Bill Henson, and Ronnie Henson (deceased). He is also survived by brother-in-law Sidney Cox (Jean), sister-in-law Carolyn Meadows (Wayne) and nieces and nephews of that side of the family who all considered Tommy their “fun” uncle! Special friends he considered his own include Jennifer Kullman Johnston and her family and Sonny Kullman and his family.

Tommy was an Army Veteran who served proudly in Vietnam. He was a long-time member of Brandon First United Methodist Church and loved his Lord and Savior! He was an avid Ole Miss Rebel football fan! He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends!
