Tommy Sistrunk, 75, passed away Friday, October 5, at Lackey Memorial Hospital.
Visitation was 4:30 PM until 8:30 PM on Sunday, October 7, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest. The funeral service was at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 8, at the Forest United Methodist Church with visitation prior to the service at 9:00 AM. Interment was at 2:00 PM at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson, MS.
Pallbearers were: Jamie Sistrunk, Don Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Jeff Mitchell, Jimmy Woods, Andy Chambers, Toby Rodgers, and Mike Lee. Honorary Pallbearers were: Jerry McNeil, and the members of the United Methodist Men.
Tommy, a native of Sebastopol, was a longtime resident of Forest. Active in business for many years, he had co-owned the Lincoln-Mercury dealership, and later worked in the accounting department of Sara Lee Bakery. He had recently retired as a sales associate for the Western Auto Store.
He was a member of the Forest United Methodist Church where he had served in various positions including Sunday School Superintendent, Head Usher, Chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Member of the Administrative Council, Communion Steward, and most recently, as Sunday School Secretary. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, he served as chairman of the parade committee, and for over fifty years, had directed the annual Christmas parade. He was the recipient of three Golden Shovel Awards which were given for his work with the Chamber of Commerce. In 2003, Tommy and his wife were selected as Citizens of the Year and served as Grand Marshals of the Christmas parade.
Survivors are his wife, Marian; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Corrie; grandchildren, Olivia and Andrew; all of Forest; and one sister, Evelyn Johnson of Philadelphia.
