Tommy Joe Travis, 85, passed away at his home in Brandon, MS. Services will be 4pm Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS, with visitation starting at 2pm. Burial will follow in Brandon Memorial Gardens.
Tommy was born in Sheeplo, MS on September 24, 1937 to Wendell Elbert Travis and Alma Mayfield Travis. He graduated from Petal High School. He then went on to work for Zitco Inc. as a seismograph in South America. Tommy later became a police officer with the Jackson Police Department until his retirement in 1982. He worked in the jewelry business for many years, opening Crossgates Jewelers and operating until 2000 after his second retirement. Tommy then went to work for Enterprise until 2020.
Mr. Travis was a member of Brandon Baptist Church and a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge in Pearl, MS and the Shriner’s, where he was also a member of the Clown unit. He became a Captain in the Shriner’s in 1973 and Potentate in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Patti Travis; sons, Jimmy Travis (Cindy) and Joe Travis (Amy); stepson, Mike Bryant (Michelle); stepdaughter, Tammy Frazier; sister, Mary Green (Tom); grandchildren, Jordan Spraggins, Haylie Doughty, Natalie Travis, Adam Travis and Ethan Travis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bette Travis; brother, Richard Travis; and his parents.
