Tracy Lynn Sykes Blalock, 57, a loving wife, devoted mother, loving friend and servant of God entered her haven of rest on January 5, 2017 at her home in Brandon, MS. Tracy was born December 20, 1959 in Hazelhurst, MS. She was the daughter of O.A. Sykes and the late Angelyn Guynes Sykes also of Crystal Springs, MS.
She graduated from Copiah Academy in Crystal Springs, MS and from Hinds Jr. College in Raymond, MS where she was a member of the prestigious Hinds High Steppers. During her early years in Crystal Springs, Tracy enjoyed riding horses with her brother and cousins and playing girls softball at which she excelled. She worked many years in the insurance field before beginning a career of church ministry at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. Tracy served in many capacities but her passion was for Youth and Missions. She served as the Administrative Assistant and organized and participated in many youth and mission tours throughout the United States and other countries. Tracy loved helping others and could be found involved in urban ministry in downtown Jackson or helping special needs children.
She lived life to the fullest, enjoying hunting and fishing with Dale and her boys and family friends, boating, snow-skiing, vacations at Grayton Beach, FL but mostly she enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family and friends, especially the Friday night Blalock domino games at Mamaw’s. She adored her children and grandchildren and could always be found supporting their many accomplishments and activities. She was a kind, compassionate and caring person who made a friend of everyone she met. During her long battle with Alzheimer’s, Tracy never lost her smile or her sweet spirit.
Tracy was preceded in death by her mother, Angelyn Guynes Sykes of Crystal Springs, MS; grandparents, Henry and Blair Catchings Guynes, Sr. of Crystal Springs, MS., John and Adeline (Tabby) Sykes, Sr. of Crystal Springs, MS and father in law, Edward Blalock of Brandon, MS. She leaves behind the love of her life, Dale Blalock of Brandon, MS; children, Anthony Day (Alex) and Nathan Day (Jaclyn) both of Hattiesburg, MS, Brent Blalock (Emily) of China and Katie Blalock Baldwin (Mark) of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Luke and Brooke Baldwin of Brandon, MS and Rosemary Carol Blalock of China; father, O.A. Sykes of Crystal Springs, MS; brother, Robert Allen Sykes of Crystal Springs, MS; sister, Jean Garrett Young of Byram, MS and her children, Scott and Melanie of Ridgeland, MS; beloved mother in law, Elmese Blalock of Brandon, MS and many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 from 2pm-5pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 11am on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS followed by a private family graveside service at the Old Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, MS.
