Truman was born September 18, 1940 in Scott County to his parents James Wardell and Dora Lee Cooper Manning. He grew up in Scott County and was one of the biggest supporters of Morton Panther basketball, baseball and football. He was himself a football player for East Central. He loved going to all the basketball and football games and he would take his vacation to go to the playoff games during March Madness. He and those who went with him had a certain place that they sat and everyone knew that this is where Mr. Truman sat and no one would sit in his place.
He played Santa Claus and touched many children and people’s hearts for many years visiting people’s homes on Christmas Eve giving out candy to all he saw. He was Santa Claus in the Morton Parade for over 50 years. Everyone loved seeing Santa Claus and Santa Claus loved people and putting a smile on their faces. He was a great outdoors man and loved gardening, he would help plow others gardens to get them started on the right track. Truman enjoyed helping people wherever he could and would not turn you away if you needed help. If you hear the tale of His Hammer you would know that the story is true about his deer hunting days. One of the enjoyments that Truman liked was the time of year when he had what people would call his hog killing days each year. He made some of the best sausage in the county. Truman loved God, his church, his family, the love of his life Zelle, his children, and especially his grandchildren. Truman also enjoyed working his cows and would help the community with their cows; he was basically the community veterinarian because people would call on him if they needed help. Truman was a true friend to those who knew him and he loved people and loved a good joke. He will be missed by those who knew him.
