Valda Roland Eure Greener was born October 1, 1922 at the family home in Hillsboro. She died Monday, March 2, 2015 at North Pointe Health and Rehab at Meridian at the age of 92.
A longtime resident of Forest, she served her community for 35 years as the office manager of the Scott County Health Department until her retirement and as the Scott County Commissioner for Weems Mental Health since inception, serving over 30 years. She was a member of the Mid Century Club and the Forest Garden Club. Pass times included cooking, entertaining, needle work and quilting. Gardening was a favorite hobby, particularly tending to her roses. An active member of Forest United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women until last fall, she will be remembered for having a servant’s heart, always willing to serve others and volunteer.
She is preceded in death by her husbands: Lewis Eure and James Greener; parents Joe and Olga Bell Roland and siblings: Mary McCollum Roberts, Marcus Roland and Ray Roland
She is survived by her children: Beverly Eure Youngblood (Joe) of Demopolis, AL; Judy Eure Spears of Woodstock, GA; Kathy Greener Brown (Steve) of Colorado Springs, CO; Phyllis Greener Cox (Larry) of Forest, MS and Rodney Greener (Cynthia) of Memphis, TN; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Betty Greener Culpepper of Forest and Cecille Eure of Pearl; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2015 from 9:30 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the Family Life Center of Forest United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Hillsboro Methodist Cemetery.
