Valerie Bekshaw Thornton-Goss, 69, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Merit Health Rankin. Visitation is Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 4 pm until 6 pm and Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 1 pm until the 2 pm Memorial Service at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
Valerie Margaret Bekshaw was born on October 7, 1945 in Goldsboro, NC to the late Andrew Walter and Lucile Margaret Woodard Bekshaw. She had been a resident of the Brandon area since 1967. She was an editor with numerous non-fiction titles. She was also a nationally recognized, certified crochet and knitting instructor. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon J. Goss, Jr. of Brandon, MS; her children, Julie Squyres (Joe) of Brandon, MS, Kim Calhoun (Rick) of Braselton, GA, Sandy Goss of Chicago, IL, and Kelly Arledge (Steve) of Jacksonville, FL; her sister, Virginia Shaw of Goldsboro, NC; her brother, Bill Woodard of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Ryan Calhoun, Ana Arledge, Mary Arledge, Mason Squyres, and Logan Squyres; and numerous nieces and nephews.
