Vaughn G. Galloway, age 78, while under the care of hospice died June 2, 2020 in Jackson, Mississippi. A private visitation for family only will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 on the morning of Friday, June 5, 2020 at McLaurin Heights Baptist Church in Pearl, MS. A private funeral will take place at 11:00 following the visitation and can be viewed via livestream on McLaurin Heights Baptist Church website. Graveside service will take place at 12:30 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Pearl, MS and will be open to public for attendance.

Mr. Galloway was born on May 4, 1942 in Vernon, FL to J.E. Galloway Sr. and Annie Lou Kolmetz Galloway. He graduated in 1960 from Vernon High School, in Vernon, FL.

Vaughn was a Vietnam era veteran and was honorably discharged after serving in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966. After his tour of services, he was employed with Delta Airlines for 14 years prior to being elected to serve as Mayor of Pearl, MS in December of 1980. He faithfully served as Mayor of Pearl until June of 1989 and considered his tenure to be one of his greatest honors, and was continuously grateful for the confidence and support shown to him by the citizens of Pearl.

After leaving the Mayor’s office, Vaughn was employed with Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS as Funeral Director, and served in this position for 6 years. Vaughn then became an employee of Federal Express where he was employed for the next 4 years before retiring. Following his time with Federal Express, he worked as a Funeral Director at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS for 15 years before retiring.

Mr. Galloway was an active member and lifetime deacon of McLaurin Heights Baptist Church. He was a member of the John P. Byrd Lodge #623 in Pearl, MS.

Mr. Galloway is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Stegall Galloway, of Brandon, MS; One Son, Byron (Lissa) of Madison, MS; Two Grandchildren, Connor (Ashley) of Houston, TX and Reed of Oxford, MS; One Great Grandchild, Emory Ann daughter to Connor & Ashley; Two Sisters, Mary Lou Cotton (Thad) of Orange Park, FL and Delila Callahan (Eugene) from St. Cloud, FL; He also has many nieces and nephews.

Vaughn was preceded in death by his first-born son Gregory Stephen Galloway in 1978, his parents, nine brothers, and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to The Baptist Children’s Village, Ridgeland, MS, or Gideon’s International, Jackson, MS.

Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling arrangements.
