Velma Faye Johnson was born on August 11, 1933 in Pineville, MS to the union of Ivy Bamburg and Zula Huff Bamburg. Faye passed from this life on Monday, July 15, 2024 at her residence in Pineville. Visitation will be held at Leaf River Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 17 from 9-11am. Services will begin at 11am to be conducted by Bro. Danny Dickerson and Marty Earnest. Burial and a graveside service will follow the funeral in Leaf River Baptist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wallace Lee Johnson; three sisters, Ethel McClanahan, Berdie Tarver, Sue Meredith; one son Lenson B. Johnson; one great grandson, Justin Neese; and a cousin that was more like a brother, Gene Huff
She is survived by three children, Charles Johnson, Sherry Hillman, and Ladana Quiroz; five grandchildren, Nathan Johnson, Micheal Johnson, Shawn Johnson, Lacee Leard, and Stacy Neese; two great grandchildren, Amber Len Helms and Bethany Neese; her cousin Howard Young; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Velma was a housewife and raised four children, two grandchildren, and took care of her cousin Wily Bamburg for many years until his death. She loved gardening and always had beautiful flowers and shrubs in her landscaped yard. She loved traveling to numerous destinations with her daughter, Sherry, exploring various places and states each month for several years. She was a wonderful cook and was known for the best biscuits and cornbread dressing in the world.
The highlight of her week was attending services at Leaf River Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years.
The family deeply appreciates Christy Phillips for her help and dedication to taking care of their mother in this time of need. Christy, you were a true blessing and we love you and our mom loves you too.
She will be deeply missed, but her love and the cherished memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Jimmy Smith, Phil Fortune, Steven Fortune, Marty Earnest, Mark Kelly, and Jonathan Leard.
Honorary pallbearers will be: J.T. Childs and Larry Paul (Sonny) Nelson
