Velma Bowman Letchworth, 104, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Jaquith Nursing Home.  Visitation will be 10 AM – 11 AM Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Antioch Baptist Church in Rankin County with a service following at 11 AM in the church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.   Rev. Vic Bowman will be officiating.

Mrs. Letchworth was born in in Rankin County, on September 12, 1916, to Oscar and Alice Huff Bowman, the eldest of 7 siblings.  She was a lifelong resident of Rankin County and lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served many capacities at the church over the years.  She taught Sunday School and worked with the children for many years.  Velma loved to work in her flowerbeds and especially enjoyed growing a garden.

Survivors include her son, George (Vickey) Letchworth of Puckett, MS; grandson, Marty Letchworth of Pelahatchie, MS; 4 great grandsons, Matthew, Austin, Brendan and Christopher Letchworth; sister, Daisy Williams of Mendenhall, MS; and a brother, Hubert (Betty Joyce) Bowman of Pelahatchie, MS.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Alice Bowman; husband, Wilmer Letchworth; siblings, G.B. Bowman, Elbert Bowman, Virgil Bowman, and Willie Jewel Ponder.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church.
