Mrs. Velma Phillips, age 82, a resident of Rolling Acres Retirement Center in Raleigh, but formerly of Polkville passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Raleigh. Visitation was held 5pm-until on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Polkville Pentecostal Church. Services were held 2pm Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the church with burial in Piney Grove Cemetery. Rev. Baron Price and Rev. Marvin Phillips officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Richland Parish, LA, City of Mangham, on September 30, 1930. She loved writing in her diary, cooking for her family and working in her flowers. Mrs. Velma will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Earl Phillips; parents, Cleve Hutson and Sally Bradshaw Hutson; sisters, Etta Gilley and Bessie Jordan; brothers, H.C. Hutson Jr., Arlon Hutson and Otis Hutson.
She is survived by her son, Dwayne Phillips and wife, Melissa of Polkville; 2 step daughters, Dianna Hall and husband , Woody of Raleigh and Gloria K. Hamilton and husband, Billy of Polkville; 6 grandchildren, Heather Phillips, Trey Hall, Butch Hamilton, Billy Dan Hamilton, Cassandra Hall and Whitley Green; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Trey Hall, Butch Hamilton, Billy Dan Hamilton, Mike Phillips, Kelsey Phillips and Billy Allen.
Memorials may be made in her memory to the Polkville Pentecostal Church.
