On June 24th,2014 Violet Moon Gould (known as Vi to her friends and Mimi to her family), died peacefully at Baptist Hospital at the age of 94.
Vi lived in Brandon and worked for many years as a beauty consultant for Germaine Monteil Cosmetics at Gayfers in Metrocenter Mall. So it should come as no surprise that, even at 94, she had the most gorgeous skin of practically any woman in Mississippi and up until just the last few of weeks, would visit the beauty shop every Friday. She was always impeccably coiffed and manicured and was a lifetime devotee of fashion, makeup and jewelry. She was once quoted as saying, “I love bling-bling jewelry. If you are going to look good, you gotta get up and put your jewelry on, every morning. My mother was a very proud woman. She got up and got dressed before she left her bedroom.” And while Vi confessed that she sometimes fell a little short of this practice, anyone that knew her would, surely, disagree.
Dancing was Vi’s favorite pastime and she and her husband were regulars at The Hill Restaurant, their beloved dance spot in Jackson. Everyone that went there knew them as they were like the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of the South Jackson club scene. Her husband, Walter Gould, passed away in 2007.
Since then, Vi has found a new love in her church family at Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl. She once resolutely proclaimed, “That’s my church, my Sunday school and my pastor. I’ve found my home.” She loved the people there and often laughed about being the oldest one in her Sunday school class. She knew God and was filled with His grace. Thank you to Dr. Keith Grubbs, pastor of Park Place Baptist Church.
Vi is survived by her sons Curtis (Jerry) Kirby and his wife Emily of Brandon and Michael (Mickey) Kirby of Southaven. She is also survived by her grandson Bo Kirby and his wife Sherry and their boys Tyler and Cole; granddaughter Kris King and her husband Chuck and their daughter Kirby; grandson Michael Kirby and his wife Mary Ann and their son Parker; granddaughter Kelly Clark and her husband James and their children Alyssa, Wade, Jesse (Dawson) and Eirik; grandson Michael Nelson and his wife Regina and their son Lane; grandson Mark Kirby and his wife Kelly and their children Emily and Sidney; grandson Casey and his wife Danielle and their son Michael Austin. She also leaves behind her dearly loved cat, Prissy.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Alice Lewis, Dorothy McDougal and Mattie Ward for their loving care and attendance.
Visitation will take place Friday June 27, 2014 from 9:30am – 11:00am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with a graveside service to follow at 11:30am at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may be made to the Global Missions Fund at Park Place Baptist Church.
