Wade E. Thornhill Jr, 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, Sept. 24. Wade was born February 3, 1944, to Wade E. Thornhill Sr. and Edna Boutwell Thornhill. He is predeceased by his parents; his father-in-law James Lea and his stepson Adam Lea.
Wade was raised in Brookhaven, MS. He was an accomplished athlete, excelling in all sports. He remained an avid sports fan and could often be found watching or listening to a good game. After 30 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Army, Wade retired as a Colonel in 1994. Post retirement he engaged in various business endeavors and spent time with family and friends. Wade enjoyed good music, good company, good food and a good drink. With his handsome looks, quick wit and undeniable charm, Wade made friends at every turn in life. A devoted father and “Pop,” Wade’s love for his family and pride in their accomplishments was evident to all who knew him.
Wade is lovingly remembered by his wife Ramona and their daughter Ryan Lea; his children Shannon (Blake), Wade III “Tré” (Polly) and Beau (Jessica); his stepson James Lea (Dareen); ten grandchildren Quincy, Tristan, Wade IV “Max,” Baylee, McKaylin, Elaina, Evan, Becca, Beau, Emily; mother-in-law Dorothy Lea; sisters-in-law Deborah Lea and Renee Pickell and other dear family and friends.
A service celebrating Wade’s life will be held Saturday, September 30, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. followed by a service at 4 p.m. Donations can be made to the Organization for Autism Research (ResearchAutism.org).
