Walter Pat Barnes, Sr., age 86, a resident of Forest, died Monday February 27, 2012 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30am Thursday March 1, 2012 at Forest Baptist Church with interment in Eastern Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5pm-8pm Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Dr. Gordon Sansing and Dr. Scott Fortenberry will officiate the services.
“Mr. Pat” as he was affectionately known, retired from Koch Foods (formerly B.C. Rogers) in 2003 to care for his wife of 67 years. Prior to that he managed Little Princess Foods for 28 years. He was a member of Forest Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World Lodge, and the Cattleman’s Association. Mr. Pat enjoyed his family, kidding around with his friends, his daily visits to Lackey Convalescent home and tending to his many animals. He was very active up until his untimely death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glover Barnes and Emma Holbert Barnes, his two brothers , Lod Barnes, Hugh Nile Barnes, three sisters, Mattie Whatley, Sue Alford, Rebecca Jones, and a daughter-in-law Martha (Hollingsworth) Barnes.
Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife Emma McDollen Barnes, a son, Walter Pat Barnes, Jr. and his wife Gay (Gaddis), and a daughter Paula Barnes Brown and her husband Darrell all of Forest. He is also survived by three brothers, Ray Barnes and wife Butchie of Forest, Bill Barnes and wife Shirley, Tommy Barnes and wife Mary Jane all of Pulaski. Mr. Barnes also leaves a legacy of five grandchildren, Lance Wooten, Alan Barnes, Keith Brown, Kevin Brown, Asa Barnes, and four great grand-children, Raelee Thompson, Jaden Ann Barnes, Kaylee Wooten and Madison Wooten.
Pallbearers are Asa Barnes, Lance Wooten, Alan Barnes, Keith Brown, Kevin Brown, Chet Barnes, and Watt Whatley.
