Walter Ferguson

Memorial services for Walter Pruitt Ferguson, 80, of Pelahatchie will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 7 at Pelahatchie Baptist Church. He died Wednesday, August 2 at home with his wife by his side.

Mr. Ferguson was born in Neshoba County, MS and graduated from Arlington High School. He joined the 403rd Unit with the Air Force Reserves at Keelser Air Force Base.  He flew all over the world as part of the Hurricane Hunters. When not chasing hurricanes he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and gardening. “Fergie” never met a stranger, always had a huge contagious smile to share and was a humble, kind man who loved the Lord.  He will be greatly missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Julian Preston Ferguson and Sula Goldman Ferguson, brother Julian Ferguson and daughter Michele Fortenberry. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Shirley Fayard Ferguson, daughters, Tonja Cumbaa (Herb), Kelli Speights (Ricky), and Tedra Sirmon (Greg); sons, Leonard Pizzetta (Trish), and Jeff Pizzetta; sisters, Marvaline Gurney (Jerry), Patty Wiggins, Peggy Fraiser (Jerry) and June Crow (Johnny); brothers, Doyle Ferguson (Nita) and Terry Ferguson, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 with a memorial service following at 2 pm at Pelahatchie Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Blair E Batson Children’s Hospital or the Baptist Children’s Village.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
