Walter Wallace Patrick passed away peacefully Thursday, February 8, 2024, surrounded by his family. Wallace was born to Wayne & Katie Patrick on May 27, 1945, at home in the Walters Community of Pelahatchie, Mississippi. He was the second of five siblings, and family was always of great importance to him.
In his youth, Wallace was a natural athlete; he thoroughly enjoyed playing any type of ball, especially football and basketball. After high school graduation, he attended Hinds Jr. College, where he played football for two years. He had many fond memories of his time on the ball field or playing a pick-up game at home with dear friends and family. In the summer of 1967, Wallace began dating Sue, lovingly referred to as “his girl”. They married in June of 1968 and settled in the Concord Community of Pelahatchie.
Wallace was devout Christian husband, and he was a great Daddy to his two girls, Wendy, and Lee. Church was always an integral part of the household. Christian values were taught and modeled in the home. He was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church and served his Lord as a deacon for 50 years. He made his public profession of faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 12 and he strived to always do what the Lord called him to do in any situation. He considered it a privilege to serve the Lord however called.
Wallace worked for the county while in high school delivering dirt to help build the interstate. Later, he took a job with the Clarion Ledger/ Jackson Daily News, where he worked in several different departments. He spent most of his 30-year career with the Clarion Ledger in the Composing Room. For several years after leaving the Clarion Ledger, he served on the Walters Volunteer Fire Department. He was honored to drive a school bus for the Pelahatchie Schools for 10 years before his health forced him to retire.
His greatest title was that of Daddy Wallace. He loved and supported his grandchildren in every way. One of his favorite hobbies was supporting Pelahatchie High School and the Chiefs’ football and basketball teams. When he was not supporting Pelahatchie, he was traveling to Hattiesburg to watch USM’s Golden Eagles play football. The life he lived was scattered with blessings, and he always found God faithful in every one of life’s seasons.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne & Katie Patrick, and his older sister Kathryn “Kitty” Patrick Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 55 ½ years, Sue Nobles Patrick, his two daughters, Wendy Patrick Carter and her husband Doug of Pelahatchie and Kathryn Lee Patrick Ware and her husband Greg of Lake, along with grandchildren Anna Grace Carter, Leah Kathryn Carter, and James Davis “Jay” Ware. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Pat Rogers of Mechanicsville, VA, sister Billie Patrick Roberts and her husband Billy of Gulfport, MS, brother John Wayne Patrick and his wife, Kaye, of Pelahatchie and sister Cindy Patrick Boling and her husband Chuck of Woodbridge, VA, several nieces and nephews and a special family member, caretaker and friend, Samantha Tate of Brandon.
