Funeral services for Mr. Walter Taylor Smith will be conducted on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Leesburg Church of Christ with Bro. Jack Stewart and Bro. Larry Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Visitation will begin Thursday, May 7, 2015 beginning at 6 P.M. and continue until service time on Friday at Leesburg Church of Christ, 312 Munn Rd., Morton, MS 39117.


Mr. Smith, 69, of Pelahatchie was born May 13, 1945 in Scott County to his parents, M.V. and Myrtle Peavey Smith and passed away at his home May 6, 2015.

He was a Baptist by faith and attended the Leesburg Church of Christ. He was a mechanic and truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be missed by his family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his first wife: Kathy Smith; his parents; his brothers: George, Henry Lee, J.C., Jim, and Bill Smith; and one sister: Doris Harmon.


He is survived by his wife of 26 years: Mary Jean Shoemaker Smith; three children: Paul (Sharon) Smith of Pelahatchie; Keith Smith of Brandon and Chris (Pam) Smith of Morton; three step children: Larry (Betty) Prestage and Charles Prestage, both of Pulaski and Loretta (Ritchie) Franklin of Leesburg; five grandchildren and eight step grandchildren; one sister: Sue Easterling of Pulaski; and two brothers: Troy Smith of Pulaksi and Bob Smith of Morton.
