Wanda Bea Vickers Carrigan passed away Thurs. June 6, 2013 at the Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, MS. Services will be 11am. Sat. June 8, 2013 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with burial at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Fri. June 7, 2013 from 5pm.-8pm. and Sat. June 8, 2013 from 10am.-11am. at the funeral home. Brother Ron McDougald will officiate the services.
Wanda was born on August 17, 1937 to Thomas Elihue and Clara Vickers in Mountain View, Arkansas. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joe Carrigan, her mother and father, Grandparents Rome and Arizona Wade, Will and Daisy Vickers and a brother, Bill Vickers.
Wanda is survived by sons Charles Carrigan (Paula) from Gulfport, MS, Tim Carrigan (Darlene) from Pelham, AL and daughter Cathy Goolsby (Mike) of Brandon, MS. Wanda is survived by seven grandchildren, Kristi (Mark) Collins of Gulfport, MS, Jennifer (Paul) Stegall of Florence, MS, Katie (Tim) Parker of Florence, MS, Michael (Margo) Goolsby of Brandon, Bridgett (Brian) Zoltowski of Plano, TX, Joey Carrigan of Pelham, AL and Shelley Carrigan of Tuscaloosa, AL. Wanda is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Wanda is survived as well by sisters, Velma Wilkie of Brandon, Mississippi, Bettie Jo Shepherd of Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, brother Bennie (Betty) Vickers of Kittanning, Pennsylvania and sister -in-law, Ann Vickers of Forest City, Arkansas. She is also survived by her Aunt Helen Williams of Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wanda moved from Memphis to the Jackson area in 1955. She and her husband later moved to Clinton and were active members at Pocahontas Baptist Church. She was a licensed real estate agent in Clinton working for Clinton Realty then for Carrigan and Martin Realty. In 1987, they moved to the Shiloh Community of Rankin County. They were members of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Pelahatchie. Wanda had previously worked at The Ark Children’s Home and then retired from the Ladies Harbor House as a drug and alcohol counselor. She touched many lives throughout her life. She was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Dodgers and loved to watch and talk about sports. She was a past member of the Jackson Women’s Bowling Association. She was completely devoted to her family and in each of their endeavors, she was their biggest fan.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Wanda also leaves behind her faithful dog, Buster.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to the Shiloh United Methodist Church, 2394 Shiloh Road, Pelahatchie, MS 39145.
