James Watson Purvis Sr., 85, of Brandon passed away on April 8, 2015. Visitation will be held Friday, April 10, from 9:00 – 10:45 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon followed by a graveside service at the Old Brandon Cemetery at 11:00.
Born in Pelahatchie April 14, 1929, to Cleve and Myrtle Glisson Purvis he moved to Brandon as a child where he resided until his death. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1947, and attended Hinds Jr. College.
“Pops” loved turkey hunting and golf but much more than those, he loved his children and grandchildren. Rarely did he miss the opportunity to spend time watching them in activities or playing with them on the farm. He was a Mason, a Jaycee and a founding member of Brandon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda Moore Purvis. He is survived by his children Watson, Jr. (Cindy), Don (Dadie) and Missy Burney (Daryl); his grandchildren Jake, Dale, D.J. and Ramsey Purvis, Briley Kilgore and Dalton Burney and 5 great-grandchildren.
His children wish to extend a special thank you to Ellen Edwards for her dedication in the care of their daddy during his illness.
