Wayne Franklin Rushing, 88, of Forest, was born on Tuesday, June 20, 1933 in the Redtop Community of Scott County and went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at MS Care Center of Morton with family by his side.
He attended school at Harperville High School and graduated in 1951. He joined the United States Army in 1952 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. On February 1, 1958 he married his one and only love, Danna Rose Harrell Rushing. After earning a degree with the National Hardwood Lumber Association, he worked as a lumber inspector in several states before moving back home to the Redtop Community in 1969. He was a member and deacon of Redtop Union Baptist Church where he led the music for many years, and a longtime member of the American Legion. After retirement, he and Danna enjoyed traveling and camping with the grandchildren. He loved gardening, and was passionate about woodworking and was always working on a project of some sort. In 2006, he handmade a dulcimer for each of his 8 grandchildren as a Christmas gift.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Danna Harrell Rushing, his parents James “Jim” Rushing and Maggie Mae Welch Rushing; and an infant brother, James Paul Rushing.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn Anne Graham (Lester) of Forest MS, two sons Daniel Wayne Rushing (Molly) of Foley AL, and Christopher T. Rushing (Michelle) of Sebastopol MS; eight grandchildren: Danny Rushing, Jessi Stephens (Justin), Leslie Riebock (Ryne), Jim Rushing, Trey Rushing (Carly), Alan Graham, Victoria Rushing, and Emalee Rushing; four great-grandchildren; one brother: Keith Rushing (Gloria), a special aunt Lucille Welch Torrent of Jacksonville, FL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins. He also leaves behind his adoring dog and sidekick “Peanut”.
Visitation will be from at 5pm to 8pm on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Ott & Lee chapel. Interment will be at the Redtop Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro Michael Harper will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Rushing, Trey Rushing, Alan Graham, Ryne Riebock, Michael Bishop, and Marty Primm. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Rushing and Elvis Shaw.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Redtop Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
