On Monday, July 19, 2021, Will G. Davis, loving husband, devoted father of three, and highly successful coach and businessman, passed away at the age of 87.
Born March 6, 1934 in Perkinston, MS, he married Alice Marie Parker in 1956. His education was from Gulf Coast C.C., Delta State University, and the Univ. Of Southern Mississippi.
After moving to Magnolia, MS, Coach Will Davis was an inspiring educator and successful and beloved football coach, leading the South Pike ‘Bearcat’ program to championship status.
In 1967, the Davis family moved to Brandon, MS, where Will was a well-known and dedicated sporting goods salesman for 40 years. As an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, and conservationist, he took great pride in managing his property and ‘the hunting club’ land.
Known for his quick wit and down-home humor, his leadership and good nature impacted the lives of of generations of people from all walks of life.
Will was preceded in death by his father, William Oyt Davis, his mother, Laura Lucille Alexander Davis, and his sister Betty Cospelich.
He is survived by his wife Alice Davis, sisters Brenda Breland and Edith Breland (Gene), sister-in-law Dottie Parker Dixon, brother-in-law Manley Cospelich, daughter Jo Lynne Lundy, sons Dan Davis (Lane) and Robert Davis; three grandchildren, Ashley Davis, Payton Cardis (Daniel), and Maidee Parker Campbell (Brock); 2 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; his former ‘Bearcat’ players and their families, and an unmeasurable number of friends.
A memorial service will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS at 3:00 pm on Sat. July 24.
