Senior Airman William Joseph Boyd, age 26, died in his home in Clovis, New Mexico, on July 6, 2016. Joey, as he was affectionately known, was an AC-130W instrument and flight systems journeyman for the 16th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, 27th Special Operations Aviation Maintenance Squadron at nearby Cannon Air Force Base.

Joey was born on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1989, in Jackson, Mississippi. Joey graduated in 2008 from Northwest Rankin High School in Brandon, Mississippi. He answered his nation’s call to serve and protect, and joined the United States Air Force in January 2013. Senior Airman Boyd received the Air Force Achievement Medal for his military deployment in 2015 during Operation Inherent Resolve.

He enjoyed the culinary arts, and was always cooking new and interesting foods. He was passionate about music. He was an intelligent man, a stalwart friend, avid larper, and a mischievous practical jokester.

He is survived by his parents Allen and Debby Boyd, and Timmie Boyd; his siblings Raymond (Jessy) Boyd, Marion (Aaron) Tucker, Eddie (Mindy) Boyd, and Jimmy Knight; his eight nieces and nephews; and his paternal grandmother Doris Gardner.

A memorial service in his honor was held on July 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel on Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, New Mexico. On July 14, Senior Airman Boyd will be escorted home by an honor guard to Brandon, Mississippi. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16 at ll:00 am in the Chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be Friday, July 15 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again Saturday, July 16 from 10:00 am until the ll:00 am Service. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Brandon, MS
