William Gherson Gilbert (aka "Red", "Seal-Lily", "Mr. Bill", and "Kojak"), 88, of Pineville, MS in Smith County, died Sunday, October 11, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 PM, Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home, Forest, MS. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM, Friday, October 16, 2015, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forest, MS with interment at Pineville Leaf River Cemetery, Pineville, MS.
Mr. Gilbert, a previous Jackson, MS resident, lived in Pineville since 1963. He was a member of Berean Bible Church in Bay Springs, MS. His family remembers him as a loving Dad, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend who will forever rejoice in the glory of the Lord.
He is survived by his children: Omera Peoples (Ron) of Sacramento, CA; Sarah Powell of Pass Christian, MS; Daniel Gilbert of Lefores, TX; a brother: W.C. Gilbert of Greencastle, IN; four grandchildren: Melissa Newton (Curtis), Rebecca Hopson (Edward), Caitlin Powell, Damyane Gilbert; five great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 58 years, Joyce Salter Gilbert, father- William B. Gilbert, mother-Margaret C. Gilbert, brother-Roland C. Gilbert, sisters-Flossie Mae Gilbert and Edna B. Gilbert Sibley, and granddaughter-Renee Brookshire.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Berean Bible Church or Pineville Leaf River Cemetery Association.
