William Ervin "Sonny" Lawson, 74, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 in Madison, MS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 1:00 pm-1:45 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services are 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.
Mr. Lawson was born and raised in McGehee, AR. After graduating high school there he continued his education at Henderson State College in Arkadelphia, AR and Arkansas A&M College, Monticello, AR. Mr. Lawson has been a resident of Brandon, MS since 1977. After a storied 42 year career with Mississippi Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, he retired in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Sales. He was active in his community, serving on the Board of Directors for both the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and Colonial Country Club of Jackson. Mr. Lawson was avid golfer known for his generosity, positive attitude, and never-ending smile. He never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew him.
He is survived by his two children, Stephanie McAlpin (Gayden) and Tricia Flasck (Greg); sister, Judy; four grandchildren, Lexy McAlpin, Will Flasck, Jake Flasck, and Addie Flasck; and two nephews, Chad Lawson and Blake Lawson. Mr. Lawson is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Gloria "Dodie" Lawson; parents, William E. "Bill" and Clarine Lawson; and a brother, Jackie Lawson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi at 800 Avery Blvd N #100, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
