William Edward Milner, 85, died at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS on Monday, June 6, 2011. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. A graveside service will follow at Clifton Baptist Cemetery in rural Scott County, MS.

Edward was born on September 21, 1925 in Clifton, MS to John Lyle and Velma Roland Milner. He graduated from Clifton High School, East Central Junior College and Mississippi Southern College (n/k/a the University of Southern Mississippi).

A life-long educator, he served as principal of Galloway Elementary School, Wilkins Elementary School, Peeples Junior High School in the Jackson Public School system. He completed his 43-year career as Deputy Superintendent of Services for JPS, retiring in 1989.

Affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Pawp”, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Belle Lewis Milner, of Brandon, MS; his son, John Edward Milner, and his wife, Pam, of Brandon, MS; his daughter, Jan Milner Collier, and her husband, Bill, of Decatur, GA; his brother, Robert C. Milner, and his wife, Dorothy, of Starkville, MS; his four grandchildren: Amanda Milner Eaton and her husband, Eric, of Brandon, MS; Adam Edward Milner and his wife, Carlin, of Brandon, MS; Stuart Carlisle Collier of Decatur, GA; and William Payton Collier of Decatur, GA; and his three great grandchildren: Banks Allan Eaton, Samuel Edward Milner and Hayes Thomas Eaton.

He enjoyed being outdoors at his farm property in Scott County, genealogy research and writing, and just being with people. He was loved by his many students, colleagues, friends and, most of all, his family. He was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
