William Price

William Newman Price, 83, died on September 15, 2011 from an extended battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Willana Thomas Price, sons William Newman Price, Jr. and wife Tracy, and Ray Thomas Price, three grandchildren, Will, Zach and Maddie and numerous nieces and nephews, and his wonderful caregiver, Maria Rocio Rivera.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Powell Austin Price and Irene Newman Price, and his brother and sister, Powell Austin Price and Betty Price Hubbard.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11am from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Forest, followed by a 2:30 graveside service at Utica City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5pm to 8pm and again Saturday from 9am till service time.

Mr. Price was born on October 18, 1927 in Utica, Mississippi. He attended Hinds Junior College, where he played football before being drafted in the United States Army. He served in the Occupation Forces in Tokyo, Japan with the Corps of Engineers. Later, he returned to service in the Korean Conflict where he served in 1951 and 1952, being discharged only after receiving a service-connected injury.

He continued his education at Mississippi State University, receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting. He worked for the Standard Oil Company, for the State Bank Examiner’s office and the Internal Revenue Service before moving to Forest in 1962 to establish a private accounting practice, Gibson and Price, C.P.A.’s, now Price and Company.

He was a member of the Forest Baptist Church, the Forest Rotary Club, Forest Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion and the American Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was an avid golfer and beloved by all who knew him as family, friends or clients for his gentle kindness and loving joyful spirit.

Memorials may be made to the Forest Baptist Church, the Palmer Home for Children or to the American Lung Association.
