William Michael (Mike) Runnels, a hardworking man who spent his career working off shore on the oil rigs, passed away on September 9, 2023, at Merit Health River Oaks Hospital. He was born on September 23, 1957, in Jackson, MS. With a heavy heart, we announce his departure from this earthly realm.
Mike led a life filled with adventure and passion. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found solace and excitement in exploring nature's offerings. He had a deep connection with the great outdoors and cherished the moments spent in its embrace. In addition to his love for hunting and fishing, Mike's Harley Davidson Motorcycle was his prized possession. Riding across the open roads provided him with a sense of freedom that he cherished dearly.
He survived by his daughter, Jamie Chaires, and son-in-law, Justin Chaires; sister, Belinda Pierce and brother-in-law, Johnny; step-father, Robert Middleton; along with his grandchildren: Elizabeth Terry, Hayden Chaires, and Athena Chaires. Mike's niece and nephew, Shelly Powell and husband, Jerimy and Sean Pierce and wife Patty will forever cherish their uncle's memory. Additionally, great nieces and great nephews Andrew Marrufo, Kayla Pierce, Sean Pierce Jr., Cole Pierce, Allie Pierce, Cooper Powell, and Emma Powell will forever remember Uncle Mike's love. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernadine Middleton and grandparents, W.T. Summerhill and Allie Summerhill.
Visitation will take place on September 14th at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. The visitation will be 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Carmack, MS. The service will begin at 12:30 PM and conclude at 1:00 PM.
William Michael Runnels will always be remembered for his hard work and adventurous spirit. His endearing presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of the great beyond.
