Willie Gaston Runnels, 90, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 11 am Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with interment at Merchant Cemetery in Smith County. Visitation will be held 5-8 pm Monday, May 15, 2017 at the funeral home.
Mr. Runnels was a native of Simpson County, MS and was the son of Alonzo Runnels and Emma Texas Craft Runnels. He was married to Charlotte Mae Arender Runnels. Mr. Runnels was in sales many years before retiring. He was a very active member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson where he served as a Deacon. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed wood working, photography, working in his rose garden and being with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Mr. Runnels was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Mae Arender Runnels; parents, Alonzo Runnels and Emma Texas Craft Runnels and his sister, Nell Burch.
Mr. Runnels is survived by his children, Cindy Schobey; Michael G. (Rita) Runnels and Chris (Cathy) Runnels; grandchildren, Allison Dugas Pates and Matthew Joseph (Ashley) Dugas; great grandchildren, Natalie Bonds, Coleman Bonds, Matilda Dugas and Kelly Camille Pates and sister in law, Camille Richter; many other family members and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Runnels, Chris Runnels, Matthew Dugas, Boley Kent, Eric Peabody and Norman Bennett.
