Wood Brown, 78, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be held at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Monday, February 8, 2016, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and Tuesday, February 9, 2016, from 12:30 until 1:15 PM at Pinelake Church. The funeral will be held at Pinelake Church in Flowood on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow the services at the McDonald Cemetery in Lena, MS.
Wood graduated from Lena High School. He had nearly 50 years in public service. Wood served our country in the United States Navy, where he received an honorable discharge. He later joined the Jackson Police Department, where he served 22 years. Wood then worked for the Public Service Commission under Nielsen Cochran. He served on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors and the Department of Agriculture and Commerce before becoming a Warden at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. He later worked for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department in the Chancery Court before being elected to the Rankin County Board of Supervisors.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Brown; sons, Eric Brown (Tanza), Shane Brown (April), Ryan Brown, and Kyle Brown; three grandsons, Clayton Brown, Joshua Brown, and Caleb Brown; sister, Grace Pope, and a host of nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland and to the MS State Veterans Home in Kosciusko for their loving care and support. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations be made to CenterPoint Church, Box 3298, Brookhaven, MS 39603.
