Yvonne Melton Gilbert passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. She was born on May 31, 1938, in Abilene TX.

She grew up in Baird, TX, and graduated high school in Breckenridge, TX. Yvonne attended TX Woman’s University and University Texas/Galveston branch nursing school. She met the love of her life In Galveston, TX. He was stationed in Houston with the US Air Force. Yvonne married Weems Gilbert on November 29, 1957. They moved from Houston, TX to Waco, TX, to Orlando FL before making their home in Forest MS in 1960. They had three children – Valerie, Don and Leiah.

Yvonne was an active member of Forest United Methodist Church where she was chairman of the Bereavement Committee for several years. She was also an active member of the Scott County Junior Auxiliary. Yvonne was a school board member for two terms for Forest School District. She was also co-owner of Gilbert Egg Inc.

Survivors include husband of 63 years, Weems Gilbert, children: Valerie Simmons (Chris) of Crowley TX, Don (Emily) Gilbert of Lake MS, Leiah (Paul) Bridges of Forest MS, grandchildren: Steven (Brittany), Matthew, Katie, Amy, Meagan, and Sam; Great-grandchildren, Liam, Jude, and Naomi. sister: Sharon (Lance) Kitchens of Breckenridge, TX.

Preceding Mrs. Gilbert in death were her parents, Donald F Melton and Mary Alice Lawrence Melton.
