Zollie Bill McAlpin, Florence, MS
Zollie Bill McAlpin, Jr., 82, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation will be 5-8pm Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services are 11 am Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Brandon Baptist Church, 100 Brandon Baptist Drive, Brandon, MS with visitation from 10-11am prior to the service. Graveside services will be at 3 pm in the Sharron Cemetery in Simpson County.
Bill was born April 29, 1929, in Magee, MS to Zollie Bill McAlpin, Sr. and Pearl Rankin McAlpin. He graduated from Pinola High School and attended Mississippi State University becoming a lifelong Bulldog fan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Missouri. Bill was also a veteran of the Air Force and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS and Scott Field in Illinois.
He was employed with United Gas Pipeline for 38 years, retiring as an area superintendent. He was a charter member of Brandon Baptist Church.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work and Mississippi State football games. He also enjoyed spending time at Miller Trail Hunting Club with members of his family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Novis McAlpin Jones (Charlie), brother, L.C. McAlpin, and a brother-in-law, Richard Womack.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Moore McAlpin, daughter, Wanda McAlpin, son, Arthur McAlpin (Betsy), and grandson, Chase McAlpin. He is also survived by sisters, Nevis McAlpin Womack (Gaddis), Bonnie Bill McAlpin Womack, Bettie Jean McAlpin Ratliff (Willie), brother, Arthur McAlpin (Elsie), sister-in-law, Leona McAlpin and many nieces and nephews.
