J C Thomas, 89, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Brandon Nursing and Rehab in Brandon. Visitation is 9-10:45 am Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 am Thursday at the funeral home with a 2 pm graveside at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Leake County. Mr. Thomas was a native of Leake County and a longtime resident of Rankin County. He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Thomas was also a WW II Navy Veteran. Survivors include his sons, David Thomas (Oleta) of Brandon and Donald Thomas (Sabrina) of Pearl; sister, Birdie Norwood of Deer Park, TX; brother, Billy Thomas of Brandon; grandchildren, Trudy Porter (Jeffery), Allison Howerton (Brad), John David Thomas and Matthew Thomas; great grandchildren, Madalin Coghlan, Staton Porter, Taylor Howerton and Riley Howerton.Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Thomas in 1989; great-granddaughter, Bailey Howerton in 2007, his parents, William Robert Thomas and Amanda Elizabeth Thomas; six brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers will be John David Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Brad Howerton, Jeffery Porter, Ken Thomas and Frank Langford. Brian Ellis will serve as honorary pallbearer.
